Relay for Death ...Mutual Consuming
Relay For Death is the bleak, isolationist noise project of twin sisters Roxann and Rachal Spikula. Across their discography — including releases on Hanson, No Rent, Total Black, and RRRecords — they’ve carved out a solitary and uncompromising space of sonic nihilism.
Mutual Consuming draws on a philosophical concept from traditional Chinese medicine: the endlessly shifting tension between yin and yang. “An excess of yin consumes yang and vice versa,” the duo explain. “The eternal cycle of things makes sense too. The gorge fest of existence.”
This isn’t a continuation of past work — “No,” they assert in a rare Untitled interview. Instead, Mutual Consuming stands alone: a dense, oppressive blend of electronics, noise, and ominous field recordings. As enveloping as Thomas Köner’s ghostly ambience and as harsh as MB’s industrial dread.
