FROM ADAM::
''I have been making experimental music under the alias Winters in Osaka since 2001 or so. While I have a love for experimental and noise music, I also have a passion for professional wrestling. This fascination led me to leave my hometown of Chicago, IL in 2017 and relocate to the epicenter of pro wrestling AND noise - Tokyo, Japan.
My time here has been spent in small , smokey live venues such as SOUP in the Ochiai district of western Tokyo, and at Korakuen Hall outside of the massive Tokyo Dome which attracts thousands of tourists a day. Two very different places and crowds, yet there is something similar I feel when attending both. Watching projects like Wolf Creek, Incapacitants, and Government Alpha brings a sense of danger. Limbs flying, the crowd rabid for more, pedals being disconnected, amplifiers buzzing, blood spilling, tables near breaking from the weight of the pressure. This is no different than attending a Big Japan Pro Wrestling show, or even Stardom - one of the biggest women’s wrestling companies in the world. Illegal weapons, scraped bleeding foreheads, broken tables, roaring and deafening crowds - performers pushing, pulling, crawling to the finish line.
When covid hit Japan in 2020, I alongside many others around the world was given the opportunity to work from home. My family decided to quarantine and stay in Saitama, Japan instead of together. These long and lonely days led to many creative opportunities for me. I worked on several albums, and remixes during this time. However, the one I was most proud of was the 2 part B.D.R. - Big Destruction Rumble compilation. This compilation, first and foremost, is a direct homage to the WNF: Tag Team Noise Rumble Spectacular from 1996.
The idea was to ask 20 of my closest friends in the noise scene to submit 3-4 minute tracks. Each track would be played in either the right or left channel, being paired with a random artist of my choosing to be played in the other channel simultaneously.
The final results played out much like a classic FMW or All Japan Pro Wrestling match. A violent tango being played out in front of the listener, sounds being pulled in each direction. Violent collisions - similar to a wrestler diving through the ropes and landing head first into their opponent, the splat sound off the concrete echoing throughout the building. Abrupt endings to songs - like a wrestler being distracted or being hit with an illegal object and being rolled up for a quick pin.
Artists were paired up in unique and off fashion - like a giant behemoth 7 foot 3 wrestler being paired up for a match against two high speed luchadores.
Everything about this compilation is a tip of the hat and thank you to the noise and wrestling scenes which I love. Both tape trading scenes played a huge part of my life throughout high school and beyond.
The 20 artists who contributed to this compilation deserve a big thanks, without them this wouldn't be possible.
